Leslie Mora Oropeza (Black Elk), Oglala/Sicangu Lakota, carries the spiritual name Thunder Woman – One Who Helps Many (Wakinyan Winyan Wawokiyasa). A granddaughter of Wallace Black Elk and descendant of Nicholas Black Elk, she was raised in Lakota traditions and emerged early as a youth leader within Urban Native and Chicano Native communities. Her activism began with the American Indian Movement (A.I.M.), where she advocated for justice and community protection. A devoted mother and mentor, Leslie nurtures cultural knowledge in future generations, while her decade of service in hospice care reflects her commitment to compassionate support. As a spiritual counselor and Sundance leader, she is recognized for her cultural insight, integrity, and enduring dedication to uplifting her community.
